How to Draw a Cartoon Sunflower – let’s get Initiated!
Step 1
We will start with this first step of your cartoon sunflower drawing. First, we’ll draw a circular shape for the outline of the center of the flower. As you can see in the later images, this part will also work as the face of the flower, and we will add some facial features to it.
First, take your time to outline the face. It will be rounded, but it will also have a vaguely square shape with rounded edges. Next, draw two thin black ovals for the eyes of this cartoon sunflower. Lastly, we will draw a cute smiling mouth next. You can choose a different mouth design if you prefer!
Step 2
What would a sunflower be without petals? In this step of our guide on drawing a cartoon sunflower, we will draw some petals for this pretty sunflower. Each of these petals will be relatively small and round. As you can see in the reference image.
Some will overlap others to give the flower’s appearance more dimension. Each petal will also have a straight line through the center of the petal base and in, as shown in the example. We can then continue to add a few more petals in the following steps.
Step 3
Now, we will add four more petals to this beautiful construction sunflower. The next set of petals will go on the top edge of the flower. These petals will look identical to the previous set of petals, meaning there will be some rounded outlines with a straight line inside the center. Like the previous set of petals, they will also overlap each other.
Step 4
Looking at what we’ve drawn of this cartoon sunflower drawing so far, you’ll notice a patch of petals left to add, and we’ll take care of that now. These final 5 petals will fill the remaining space of the flower, once again looking very similar to the previous ones.
Spacing them to fit the space left can be tricky, so you may want to pencil them in first, so you don’t have to worry about mistakes. We can then move on to the final details and additions in the fifth step of the guide.
Step 5
This fifth step of our guide on drawing a cartoon sunflower will allow you to finish the final detail of this composition. We’ll also cover some ways to add extra details and ideas! First, we’ll add that final detail. This will consist of a stem for the sunflower, a fairly simple design. All you need to do is draw a long thin rectangle extending from the flower’s base.
So, you are ready for those extra details! You could draw a background, which is a great way to make an awesome drawing even better. It would also be a great opportunity to add some flowers and plants to enhance this drawing. What fun would details make this beautiful cartoon sunflower even cuter?
Step 6
You are ready to finish this drawing with style and a little color! Sunflowers are known for their bright, vibrant colors; we’ve replicated these in our reference image. First, we used some shades of brown for the central part of the flower, and then we used various shades of yellow for the pretty petals.
Finally, we finish off with some green leaves for the stem. You’ll notice that we used a darker green for the top of the stem, as it shows some shadow from the flower itself. Will you use the same colors we chose, or do you have other colors in mind?
